History:

Pimpri - Chinchwad are twin towns located to the west of Pune. Chinchwad, the older of the two towns holds a prominent place in history, especially in Shivaji's reign and the Peshwa Era. However, the twin towns are now renowned in the industrial sector, as the area contributes to the state and country's industrial economy. One would think that this place is booming with activity, but in reality it is quite a serene and quiet getaway.

Bhosari is an important area in Pimpri Chinchwad. Originally known as Bhojapuri, it was the capital of King Bhoj who reigned in India over two centuries ago. Bhosari also finds reference in the Mahabharata as Bhojakata under King Rukmi.

Interesting things to do:

Visit the Chhatrapati Shivaji fort not far from these twin towns in Belwadi, and Appughar in Nigdi. Appughar, an amusement park, is often called Mini Disneyland and has merry-go-rounds, ferris wheels, roller coasters and many more rides for both children and adults.

Interesting things to Visit:

There is a well known Ganesh Temple in the area by the Pavna river, which is part of a Yatra tour every year in the month of Shravan. Many know it better as the Moraya Gosavi Temple. In the background of the temple is a low range of hills which lends a tranquil atmosphere to the otherwise bustling surroundings of the temple.

While the Ganesh temple lies in Chinchwad, there is a famous temple in Pimpri as well - the Vaishnav Devi Temple. It is the exact replica of the one located in the Himalayas. The spring temple is shaped like a hexagon. It is a beautiful sight after dark as the lights augment the magnificence of the temple. In order to see the goddess of the temple, one is required to snake one's way through a small cave. The special thing about the cave is that once you get inside, your feet are washed clean by spring water.
